Mangaluru: Department of hospitality science at Yenepoya (deemed to be university) has entered the India Book of Records for conducting the fastest culinary and beverage marathon from each Indian state on National Tourism Day — a timed showcase of regional cuisine and traditional drinks.The record-setting event was held on Jan 30, and the achievement was formally recognised during a felicitation ceremony Saturday. The attempt followed strict guidelines and a verification process overseen by record officials, with students and faculty working within a fixed time frame to present signature dishes and beverages from all Indian states.Mervin Jaison Vas, head of department of hospitality science, said the culinary spectacle, titled ‘28 states – chefs, dishes, bartenders, beverages in 28 minutes’ was held at the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Management and Commerce. He said the record was set when 28 student chefs and 28 student bartenders simultaneously prepared traditional dishes and beverages representing India’s 28 states within 28 minutes.BT Nandish, controller of examinations at Yenepoya (deemed to be university), said representing every Indian state with authentic cuisine within such a precise time frame was a remarkable accomplishment.The event was conducted under the guidance of principal Jeevan Raj; vice principal and dean, faculty of commerce and management, Shareena P; and vice principal Narayan Sukumar.
