Mysuru: District in-charge minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah Friday directed officials to ensure admission for all 116 SC and ST research scholars who qualified in the University of Mysore (UoM) entrance examination for the 2026-27 academic year, resolving concerns over their scholarships. To address the issue, he proposed a joint arrangement under which the social welfare department would provide scholarships to 58 students, while the University of Mysore would support the remaining 58. He held a meeting with the officials from the higher education and social welfare departments in Bengaluru, wherein they responded positively to the proposal.University of Mysore authorities said that following the bifurcation of Mandya and Chamarajanagar into separate universities, the institution is facing financial constraints and cannot bear the full scholarship burden of all eligible research scholars. The minister also interacted with the research scholars and noted that several research guides admitted students beyond their academic capacity, leading to the situation. He advised that future admissions be aligned with the capacity of research guides and available institutional resources to prevent recurrence of the problem. He also appealed to the students to cooperate.
