Silchar: Silchar: Assam Rifles and Cachar police jointly seized narcotics worth an estimated Rs 9.5 crore and arrested two women in an anti-drug operation in Cachar district on Tuesday evening.Acting on specific intelligence, personnel of the Assam Rifles’ Srikona battalion intercepted a suspected drug consignment and recovered 30,000 yaba tablets and 535 grams of heroin. The narcotics were concealed inside jars filled with red chillies to evade detection. The two accused, both residents of Tollen village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, were taken into custody and handed over to Cachar police for further investigation.The operation came within 48 hours of two other seizures in the region. Security forces had earlier recovered yaba tablets and heroin worth about Rs 5 crore and seized illegal foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 2.8 crore.Officials said the successive operations reflected coordination among Assam Rifles, Cachar police and the customs department in stepping up the crackdown on narcotics and cross-border smuggling. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the seized contraband.
