Nagpur: A retired banker, who saved over Rs25 lakh out of his lifetime earnings to take his wife for a trip around the world, donated the amount for Army Central Welfare Fund after she died before the couple could take up the journey.Shreekant Sahasrabuddhe’s wife passed away six months before his retirement. Now a septuagenarian, Sahasrabuddhe handed over a cheque of Rs25.51 lakh to the general officer commanding (GOC) of Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub-Area, major general Navtej Sohal, on Thursday. Sahasrabuddhe’s children are now well settled.The Army appreciated the gesture as the fund is utilised for the welfare of serving soldiers as well as that of war widows, disabled personnel and families of martyrs, said a note shared by the defence public relations officer’s (PRO) office at Nagpur.
