Chandigarh: Command Hospital, Chandimandir, under HQ Western Command, marked World Kidney Day on Thursday with a renewed push for awareness on kidney health, early detection and organ donation.The event was held at Manekshaw auditorium in Chandimandir Military Station. Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, GOC-in-C Western Command, emphasized the need for awareness, preventive care and healthy lifestyles to reduce the burden of kidney disease.The event highlighted the importance of kidney health, early detection of kidney diseases and the life-saving value of organ donation. Medical experts which included nephrologists and transplant surgical team members shared valuable insights on dialysis, transplantation and preventive strategies. The GOC-in-C felicitated the donors and their next of kin lauded their noble act which provided succour to the recipients and their families. Representatives from local authorities and community organizations were present to acknowledge the donor families’ contribution, encouraging their societal participation and continued motivation during blood and organ donation drives.The Western Command, via its flagship hospital, reiterated its resolve to foster organ donation awareness across the region, emphasizing the critical need for regular donors.
