LUCKNOW: A labourer was killed and another injured after a portion of an under-construction commercial building collapsed in the Vibhuti Khand area of Lucknow on Thursday morning, triggering a multi-agency rescue operation.The incident occurred around 10 am near the NTPC building on IGP Road under the jurisdiction of Vibhuti Khand police station. According to police, the collapse took place during basement excavation work when loose soil and construction material caved in, trapping workers inside.Upon receiving the information, local police teams along with fire services and SDRF personnel rushed to the spot and launched an intensive rescue operation. Two workers trapped under the debris were pulled out and immediately rushed to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.Doctors declared one of the workers, identified as Laxmi Shankar Awasthi (36), a resident of Amauli Kiratpur village in Barabanki district, dead on arrival. The second worker, identified as Tulsiram from Bhikam Patti village in Barabanki, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after primary treatment.Officials said a significant amount of debris had accumulated, and rescuers, including fellow labourers, used shovels to clear the soil and reach the trapped workers.Police have informed the deceased’s family, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities said the situation is now under control, and further investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.
