Shivamogga: A tragic accident in Voddinakoppa on the outskirts of Shivamogga city claimed the life of a local man who suffered severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a vessel filled with boiling arecanut extract.The deceased has been identified as Jenu Kumar, son of Rudrappa.The incident occurred while he was working in an arecanut processing shed near his residence. After boiling and removing a batch of arecanuts on Sept 8, Jenu Kumar climbed onto a raised platform adjacent to a large boiling container (hande) to clean out the remaining extract. While standing on the ledge, he reportedly lost his footing and fell directly into the scalding liquid.The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed inside the processing shed.The footage shows three workers nearby rushing to his rescue and pulling him out of the vessel. Immediately after being rescued, a panicked Jenu Kumar ran outside the shed, removed his burnt shirt, and then walked back inside. By then, however, the intense heat had already caused deep and extensive burns over most of his body.He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Shivamogga for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, doctors advised that he be shifted to Manipal Hospital for specialised care. Despite receiving intensive treatment there, he did not respond and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night.Jenu Kumar is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. A case has been registered at Tunga Nagar police station.
