Bengaluru: Chief Minister designate DK Shivakumar on Monday said the government will take necessary steps to see Gujarat will not snatch away the IPL cricketing events from Karnataka, again.

His comments came amid celebrations over the RCB’s victory in Bengaluru and the rest of Karnataka in the finals of the Tata IPL 2026 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), last month, chose Ahmedabad as the new venue to host the high-profile finals, withdrawing the event from Bengaluru amid the recent row over demand for tickets to MLAs and MPs.

Shivakumar, in a chat with the media said, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was supposed to host the IPL finals, and the state government had permitted it, too. But Gujarat used its influence and snatched it away from Karnataka. “It may have disappointed our cricket fans. We are taking necessary steps to see it does not happen again. It will take some time, though,” Shivakumar, who is scheduled to take oath as the CM on Wednesday, said.

Demands from the Karnataka government to give at least three tickets to MLAs, MLCs and MPs were suspected to be the trigger for the BCCI’s decision to divert the event to Gujarat.
