Pulwama, Mar 14: An event highlighting the role of women in nation building was held at Government Boys Degree College Pulwama, bringing together students, educators and dignitaries to discuss empowerment, leadership and social contribution.

The programme, titled “Empowered Women, Stronger Nation: Narratives of Resilience & Success,” was organised by the Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) – J&K Chapter under the convenorship of Saba Bhat. The event aimed to recognise the contributions of women from different sectors and inspire young students to actively participate in nation building.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama, Tanushree (IPS), who attended as the chief guest, addressed the gathering and spoke about the growing role of women in leadership and public service.

She encouraged young women to pursue careers in fields such as law enforcement, administration, entrepreneurship and social service, stressing that empowerment begins with education, confidence and equal opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Pulwama Tanushree said empowerment means freedom and opportunity for every woman. “For me, empowerment is one thing—you should have free power and understanding. You should get the opportunity in life to do what you truly want. You should have the facilities and the support needed to achieve your goals. That is empowerment,” she said.

The programme also highlighted stories of resilience and success, with discussions focusing on women entrepreneurs, educators and grassroots leaders who are making a difference in society. Speakers emphasised the importance of creating supportive environments where women can develop skills, access opportunities and contribute meaningfully to community development.

“Women’s empowerment begins with education, opportunity and support. Through this programme, we aim to encourage young women to pursue their ambitions with confidence. As part of the initiative, two fully funded scholarships for higher studies in the United States will be awarded to female students of the college,” said Saba Bhat, Convenor of the Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), J&K Srinagar Chapter.

Students of the college actively participated in the event, engaging in discussions on empowerment, education and leadership. The organisers noted that such initiatives are essential to inspire the younger generation and strengthen the collective vision of a progressive and inclusive society.

The event concluded with a message of unity and empowerment, reiterating that stronger participation of women is vital for building a stronger nation.
