Nagpur: Tension prevailed in Shantinagar after nearly 100 women, primarily from a specific community, gathered outside the Shantinagar police station to protest the police’s alleged inaction on a communal slur reported four days earlier. According to police sources, the controversy began when a juvenile allegedly scribbled derogatory remarks targeting a personality and the sentiments of a particular community on a parked car. Despite the matter being reported to the Shantinagar police, no immediate action was taken. Reinforcements, including women police personnel, were rushed from Ganeshpeth, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, and Tehsil police stations. Senior officers, including DCP Rahul Madane, camped at the spot. After hours of negotiations, authorities rounded up the juvenile along with his mother and produced them before the Juvenile Justice Board. This helped diffuse the tension but police deployment continues in front of the juvenile’s residence as a precaution. tnn
