Patna: A woman was assaulted by a mob near Hajipur Sadar Hospital in Vaishali district on suspicion of child theft. The incident occurred on Saturday when Indu Devi, wife of Baliram Singh and a resident of the Sarai police station area, visited the hospital’s OPD for treatment.She reportedly placed her hand on a child’s head, prompting the child’s family to accuse her of attempting to steal the minor. Hospital staff questioned her and resolved the matter inside the premises. However, once she stepped outside, a crowd gathered, chased her, and thrashed her, causing chaos in the area.
Dial 112 personnel and City police station in-charge Sikandar Kumar reached the spot and rescued her from the mob. Kumar said preliminary investigations indicate the allegations against Indu Devi are false. “Police are interrogating her and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved and take appropriate legal action,” he added.
