Bahraich: A 35-year-old woman was seriously injured after a jackal attacked her while she was guarding her paddy field with her son in Ghishnipurwa village of Visheshwarganj area on Saturday night. When the animal suddenly charged at her son, Sunita Devi rushed forward, placing herself between the jackal and the child in a bid to protect him.The jackal attacked Sunita on the face with its paw and causing serious injuries. Hearing her screams, villagers working in nearby fields rushed to the spot. By the time they arrived, the animal had fled into the bushes and could not be located because of the darkness.Family members took the injured woman to a community health centre, where doctors provided initial treatment. Given the severity of her facial injuries, she was subsequently referred to the district hospital in Bahraich.The incident has caused concern among residents, who fear further movement of the jackal in the area. Forest sub-inspector Awadhesh Kumar reached the village with his team after receiving information about the attack and spoke to locals.The forest department has intensified patrolling in the area and launched efforts to locate the animal. DFO Sundresha said three teams were conducting continuous patrols in the region. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing alone into fields or isolated areas at night.
