Rourkela: A 39-year-old woman went missing after being swept away by strong currents of Ib river at Kanakund, a popular tourist destination near Ghoghar under Talsara police limits in Sundargarh district, on Thursday afternoon.The woman, identified as Pragyashree Panda of Sundargarh town, had visited the spot with her younger brother, sister and brother-in-law for an outing.According to sources, Panda was enjoying the scenic surroundings when she reportedly slipped and fell into the river. She was swept away by the strong current and went missing.On being informed, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation. However, she could not be traced till late evening.The search operation will resume on Friday, with an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team joining the effort.“The woman has not yet been traced. The search operation will continue on Friday and an ODRAF team will assist in the rescue efforts,” said N Mohapatra, SDPO, Sadar, Sundargarh.Kanakund, known for its picturesque riverine landscape, attracts a large number of visitors, especially during holidays and weekends.
