Jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh was stolen

Kolkata: A 69-year-old woman has complained that gold and diamond jewellery estimated to be worth Rs 20 lakh was allegedly stolen from a locked almirah in her Woodburn Park Road home. According to sources, the theft came to light around noon on July 28 when the victim discovered that a drawer in an almirah had been broken into and was cleared of its contents. The elderly complainant raised suspicion against two of her new domestic helps, Sunny Kumar Paswan and Dharmendra Turi.A formal complaint was lodged with the OC of Bhowanipore Police Station on Aug 1. She sought registration of an FIR after repeated searches inside the house led to nothing.The detailed list of the missing valuables includes two gold and diamond bangles valued at Rs 5 lakh, eight rings made of gold, emerald, and diamonds worth around Rs 4 lakh, a diamond necklace valued at Rs 10 lakh, and a pair of earrings worth Rs 1 lakh. Police are currently interrogating the suspected domestic help and reviewing available CCTV footage from the building and neighbourhood.
