A shocking incident in Patna’s Jakkanpur area saw a 35-year-old woman fatally stabbed by a neighbour, Raja, late Saturday. Her 17-year-old daughter was also injured while trying to protect her mother. Police suspect the motive stems from unrequited affection, as the accused was reportedly barred from visiting the home.

Patna: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a man in Jakkanpur area late Saturday evening. Her 17-year-old daughter, who tried to intervene, was also injured in the attack.The incident is believed to be a case of one-sided love, as the accused was barred from visiting the house by the family members, police said on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Munni Devi, wife of Santosh Kumar.The deceased’s 17-year-old daughter, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital, told the police, “I was present at home with my mother. Around 4am, a neighbour Raja came and started stabbing my mother. When I tried to intervene, he stabbed me too. I started screaming. People from the neighbourhood began rushing towards our house, and by then Raja fled.”A neighbour, Shailesh Kumar, said they took the woman to a private hospital from where the doctor referred her to the PMCH.Sadar SDPO-II, Ranjan Kumar, said: “The accused Raja used to frequently visit the deceased’s house. For the past one week, the children had not allowed him to come to the house. This did not go down well with him. On Saturday, he suddenly arrived at the house with a knife and attacked the woman. Raids are being conducted to arrest him.”According to the police, it is suspected that the incident was the fallout of a one-sided love. The woman’s husband lives away, and she used to run a snack shop.Jakkanpur SHO, Rituraj Singh said, “No details about the accused, except his name, has been found. Further investigation is on.”
