Gurgaon: Two sisters were left critically injured after being set on fire by their sister-in-law in Dabua Colony on Friday, following a family dispute, police said. The incident occurred around 5pm when the sisters, Meena and Seema, were standing on the rooftop of their house and talking.According to police, the accused, identified as Pinky, who lives in a separate house, arrived carrying petrol. She poured it on both women and set them ablaze using a matchstick. As the flames engulfed them, the sisters ran downstairs screaming for help.Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, extinguished the fire, and took the injured to a nearby hospital.Though the immediate motive behind the crime is not clear, police and family members said Pinky was upset over the close relationship the sisters shared with her husband.Sources said one of the sisters suffered around 60% burns, while the other sustained nearly 90% burns. They were initially admitted to a private hospital in Faridabad and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi as their condition worsened. The family later shifted them to a hospital in Jaipur. The sisters lived with their families on separate floors of the same building, while Pinky lived with her husband, Vedbir, and their children in Dabua Chowk.“The accused had frequent arguments with them. The sisters shared a strong bond, and the accused felt insecure,” a police officer said.A neighbour alerted the police control room, following which teams, including senior officers, reached the spot and recorded statements from the family and neighbours.Police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav said Pinky has been arrested and booked under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway.“We are yet to ascertain the exact cause behind the crime, but the accused has been arrested and booked for attempting to murder her sisters-in-law,” Yadav said.
