Ghaziabad: A Loni resident allegedly strangled his former neighbour to death and staged it to appear as a suicide on Sunday. The woman’s two children, however, witnessed the incident and reported it to their father and the police. The accused had allegedly been enraged after the victim broke off their affair and refused to elope with him. Teams have been formed to nab the accused.Rizwana (31) and her husband Nisar had been living in the building for nine months along with their son Ahad (8) and daughter Nida (6). The accused, Faizan, lived on an upper floor. Rizwana and Faizan were allegedly in a relationship for six months before neighbours told Nisar about the affair. Nisar told cops he confronted Faizan and told him to never come into his house again.On July 7, Faizan moved out of the building, but continued to harass the family. “While leaving, he threatened me. He said if my wife would not be his, she would be no one’s,” Nisar said.On Saturday, Nisar was away from home when he got a call around 11.30am from his neighbour, who told him something had happened to his wife and he needed to rush home. When he arrived, he found her unconscious with a noose around her neck. Rizwana was rushed to GTB Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.Nisar’s son Ahad, who is blind, later told him that Rizwana was murdered by Faizan, who had come to their flat sometime after Nisar left. Nisar said that the doctors had also told him that his wife was most likely strangled. The autopsy results are awaited.An FIR was registered against Faizan under BNS Section 103 (murder) at Loni police station, and five teams have been formed to trace and nab the accused. “We suspect that Faizan came to meet Rizwana and tried to force the victim to run away with him, but she refused, leading to the incident,” DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said.
