Accused Kiran Kanwar in police custody in Bhawanimandi Monday

Kota: An additional sessions court in Bhawanimandi, Jhalawar district, Monday sentenced a woman and her paramour to life imprisonment for murdering her husband in Sept 2024. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each of the convicts.Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajiv Duttatreya convicted and ordered the jail term to Kiran Kanwar (32), wife of Shivraj Singh, and her paramour Surendra Singh alias Sunder (30), both residents of Sangria village, for the murder under relevant provisions of BNS, said Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Hemraj Sharma.According to Sharma, Shivraj was found dead on a cot under suspicious circumstances at his house in the Sunel police station area on the morning of Sept 17, 2024. Acting on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother, police registered a murder case against unidentified persons.During the investigation, police found that Kiran and Surendra were in a relationship and murdered Shivraj while he was asleep on the intervening night of Sept 16-17, 2024. The two allegedly attacked him on the head with a hammer and electrocuted him using the wire of a heater.Based on the investigation, police booked the accused. Both were arrested and were in judicial custody since then.The statement of the couple’s 14-year-old daughter, who witnessed the crime, proved crucial in securing the conviction. Sharma said the girl was present in the room when the murder took place and was threatened by her mother and Surendra Singh to keep silent.During the trial, the prosecution examined 23 witnesses and produced 65 documents and eight material exhibits before the court, Sharma added.
