Varanasi: Chandauli police on Friday claimed to have solved the murder of a 40-year-old man within 24 hours, arresting three accused, including the victim’s wife. Police said the woman allegedly conspired with her lover and his associate to eliminate her husband, whom they considered an obstacle to their relationship.The trio allegedly lured the victim on the pretext of showing him a piece of land before slitting his throat and dumping his body in a canal.Police have recovered the murder weapon, a knife, and the motorcycle used in the crime.According to police, Dharmanand Yadav of Mahewa (Bilaridih) village under the Alinagar police station area informed them about a body lying in the Mahewa canal. Based on his complaint, Alinagar police registered a case.Later, Ramesh, a resident of Mahadevpur village under the Mughalsarai police station area, identified the deceased as his younger brother, Rajesh Kumar (40). He alleged that Rajesh’s wife, Urmila Devi, was having an illicit relationship with Jitendra Sharma alias Rahul (30), a resident of Lakhmipur in the Mughalsarai area. Rajesh had opposed the relationship, leading the accused to plot his murder.According to the investigation, on June 24, the accused called Rajesh on the pretext of showing him a plot of land. They took him near the Mahewa canal culvert, allegedly slit his throat, and threw the body into the canal.Acting on a tip-off that two suspects were attempting to flee to Bihar on a motorcycle, a police team led by Inspector Ghanshyam Shukla laid a trap near the Rewsa underpass and arrested Jitendra and Vinod Pal (51). Urmila Devi was later arrested from her residence.During interrogation, Jitendra allegedly confessed that he was in a relationship with Urmila Devi. He told police that Rajesh frequently objected to the affair, following which Urmila allegedly persuaded him to kill her husband and promised him Rs 10,000. Jitendra, along with Vinod, then hatched the conspiracy and executed the murder.Police said the knife used in the crime and the motorcycle were recovered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
