Ahmedabad: A 28-year-old private-sector employee was allegedly duped of Rs 65,000 by a person who promised to arrange a helicopter booking for her Kedarnath pilgrimage, according to a complaint filed with Satellite police on Monday.The complainant, a sales manager with a private bank, told police that she was planning to visit Kedarnath on May 25 and was looking for helicopter service. While searching online, she came across a mobile number and contacted the person for booking.The caller allegedly asked her to pay the entire fare of Rs 65,000 in advance. Trusting him, she transferred the amount using Google Pay to a mobile number provided by him.However, after receiving the payment, the accused allegedly did not make the booking. When the woman contacted him seeking a refund, he allegedly kept giving her assurances that the money would be returned.The accused later told her that she needed to make another payment of Rs 3,000 to receive the Rs 65,000 refund. Suspecting that she was being deceived, the complainant stopped further payments.She contacted the cybercrime helpline 1930 and later approached Satellite police, filing a formal complaint against holder of the mobile number.Police have registered the complaint and launched an investigation to identify the accused and trace the transferred money. Investigators are also examining the transaction trail and other digital evidence to determine whether the mobile number was used to target others with similar helicopter-booking offers.
