Varanasi: A 32-year-old woman was detained for allegedly killing her two minor sons in Rajhati village of Ghazipur district on Wednesday evening.According to police, the accused allegedly attacked her sons, aged 13 and 11, with an iron rod, resulting in their death.The woman later attempted suicide by hanging herself, but villagers intervened and alerted the police.Police recovered a bottle containing poisonous substance near the bodies. Investigators suspect that the woman might have mixed poison or a sedative in the children’s food before attacking them. Food samples have been collected and sent for forensic examination.Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman’s husband, who works in another district, had married another woman.Villagers told police that the woman was under mental stress following her husband’s second marriage, which led to tension in the family.Superintendent of police, Ghazipur, Iraj Raja said the woman had been detained and was being questioned.Khanpur SHO Rajiv Kumar said police were examining the sequence of events, the motive behind the crime and whether anyone else was involved.
