Varanasi: A woman was allegedly killed after catching a neighbour stealing money from her house in Azamgarh’s Bardah police station area, police said on Saturday. The accused allegedly slit the victim’s throat with a kitchen knife after she confronted her. Police arrested the accused and recovered the blood-stained knife used in the murder.SP City Madhuban Kumar Singh said Babita Gond, who often visited the victim’s house, knew that money was kept under the bed.According to police, Mustafa, a resident of Kariya Gopalpur village, informed them that his daughter Akbari, who was married in Azamgarh’s Bardah, lived at home with her two children. Her husband Tahir and elder son live in Mumbai.When police reached the spot, they found injury marks on Akbari’s neck caused by a sharp weapon. A murder case was registered against an unknown person, and an investigation was launched.During the investigation, police detained Babita Gond, who lived near the victim’s house. During questioning, she allegedly confessed that she had gone to Akbari’s house to steal money. While she was taking out the money, Akbari caught her.Police said Akbari objected, leading to a scuffle between the two. During the struggle, she hit her head on a cot and fell unconscious. Fearing that she would be caught, Babita allegedly picked up a knife from the kitchen, slit Akbari’s throat and fled.
