Jamshedpur: A 35-year-old man from Adityapur was killed by his wife for having an extra-marital affair, the police here said on Monday. Rajesh Kumar Mahata, the father of three minor children, was asleep in his home Dheerajgang Mohalla in Satbahini under Adityapur police station limits in the early hours of July 16 when his wife Puja Kumari (29) smashed his head using a hammer, killing him on the spot.With her husband dead, Puja left with her children to live with her parents in Giridih district. The police recovered the body on July 19 after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house. Mahata worked as a labour in an automobile ancillary unit in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.As the police launched an investigation into Mahata’s murder, Puja pretended to be clueless over her husband’s death. However, police recovered CCTV footages from the locality which showed her leaving the house under the cover of night and began questioning her extensively on Sunday. Eventually, Puja broke down during the questioning and confessed to killing her husband following an argument which took place the previous night, the police said on Monday.“Confessing to the crime, the woman said that she was upset with her husband for his illicit relationship with another woman. Further, she was in a fit of rage after the quarrel with her husband and committed the crime in a state of anger,” said Seraikela SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said on Monday.
