Gurgaon: A 30-year-old woman allegedly killed her 2-year-old daughter before attempting to take her own life by slitting her throat with a pair of scissors in Surya Vihar Colony on Monday. The child was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while the mother remains in critical condition. The incident happened around 4pm when Adhaar Sharma, an employee of a private firm, returned home from work to find his rented house locked from the inside. When repeated knocks went unanswered, Sharma, with the help of neighbours, broke down the door and found his wife, Neha, lying unconscious and their daughter Anika lying in a pool of blood. The mother-daughter duo were rushed to a private hospital, where the toddler, with multiple injury marks on her body, was pronounced dead. Neha, who had a deep wound on her neck, is currently battling for her life.Preliminary investigations suggest the extreme step was the fallout of a domestic dispute. While Sharma claimed everything was normal when he left for work Monday morning, cops are suspecting frequent disputes between the couple.“We are looking into the matter from all angles. The exact reason behind the murder will be ascertained post questioning or interrogation of the suspect,” an officer at the Sector 9 police station said.Adhaar and Neha got married four years ago and had shifted to the city earlier this year from UP’s Bijnor and were residing on the second floor of a house on rent.Police are currently questioning neighbours and relatives to determine if there was any planning behind the act.“The accused, Neha, is currently admitted to the hospital. After being discharged from the hospital, she will be arrested and interrogated,” Sandeep Turan, police spokesperson, said. A murder case has been registered against her at Sector 9-A police station.
