Silchar: A 55-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a dumper truck on Silchar-Aizawl NH-306 in Cachar district on Thursday morning.The accident occurred around 8 am near MA Laskar Senior Secondary School in Rajghat. The deceased was identified as Mina Begum Barbhuiya, a resident of Rajgobindapur in the Bhaga area.According to local residents, Mina was walking towards Channighat when the dumper truck entering a nearby servicing centre allegedly knocked her down. She suffered critical injuries and died at the spot.A team from Lailapur police station reached the site after receiving information and sent the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.Residents raised concerns over road safety and alleged that the dumper’s front and side windows were covered with dark films, restricting the driver’s visibility. They suspected that the driver might have failed to notice the pedestrian because of the tinted windows.However, police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and have launched an investigation.Mina’s husband had died earlier, and she is survived by a daughter, family sources said. Her death has cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
