Varanasi: Two boys drowned while their seven-year-old sister survived after freeing herself when their mother allegedly tied all three children to her saree before jumping into a pond in Saraimir area of Azamgarh district on Sunday. The woman was rescued by locals and remains critical in hospital. Police suspect a family dispute behind the incident.Azamgarh ASP (Rural) Chirag Jain said on Monday that Jayaprada (26), a resident of Karcha (Akadchha) village under Saraimir police station, left home on Sunday afternoon with her three children on the pretext of buying medicine.However, after reaching the Saraimir market, she went to a pond located between a shopping mart building and the railway tracks. Jayaprada allegedly tied her daughter Manavi and her two sons, Raghav (18 months) and Krishna (3), with her saree before jumping into the water.Manavi did not lose courage and managed to untie herself and come out of the pond. However, before she could raise an alarm and seek help, her brothers Raghav and Krishna drowned. Locals somehow rescued Jayaprada and informed the police. The police rushed her to hospital, where her condition remained critical, Jain said.Police sent the bodies for postmortem, Jain said, adding that the preliminary investigation indicated that Jayaprada took the step due to her poor mental condition and a family dispute.Jayaprada’s family came to know about the incident after Manavi walked nearly three kilometres back home, crying, and informed them about her mother’s act.
