Ara: Police on Thursday arrested a 35-year-old woman from Patna district for allegedly posing as a relative of a family in Bhojpur’s Lasadhi village and stealing gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs8 lakh, including about 2kg of silver ornaments, along with Rs 6 lakh in cash after allegedly drugging the family with sleeping pills.Police said they recovered the stolen jewellery and around Rs2.5 lakh in cash from the accused.The incident took place on early on July 17 morning at a house in Lasadhi village under Garhani police station area.According to police, the accused, identified as Seema Kumari, wife of Ranjit and a resident of Patna district, allegedly introduced herself as a distant relative of the family and convinced them to allow her to stay overnight.Garhani SHO Kamaljeet said the woman allegedly mixed sleeping pills into the family’s tea and drinking water during the night. The family members reportedly fell unconscious and discovered the next morning that their gold and silver jewellery and Rs6 lakh in cash were missing.“During the investigation, it was found that the arrested woman is also an accused in another theft case registered at Piro police station in Bhojpur district. Although she has not yet been found to be part of any organised burglary gang, further investigation is underway,” the SHO said.Police said they are investigating whether the accused has links to other theft cases in the district.
