Coimbatore: A 19-year-old female college student was arrested by Pollachi east police for stealing gold ornaments from her father’s friend’s house to buy a two-wheeler for her boyfriend.The arrested student has been identified as R Joy Princy, 19, a second-year student at Govt Arts College in Pollachi. Police said the complainant, H Tamilselvan, 59, of Chandrapuram Road near Unjavelampatti in Pollachi, is friends with the accused’s father, Rajesh, of TVK Nagar in Pollachi.On August 16, Joy Princy visited Tamilselvan’s residence. After she left, he noticed that nine sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in the wardrobe of his house were missing. He lodged a police complaint suspecting her of the theft, and a case was registered.“During interrogation, Joy Princy confessed to the crime and stated that she sold the jewellery for cash and used it to buy a new two-wheeler for her boyfriend, Janagan Siva of Makkinampatti near Pollachi,” said an officer.She was subsequently arrested and produced before a court and thereafter remanded in judicial custody at Coimbatore Central Prison. Meanwhile, police have launched a hunt to apprehend Janagan Siva who is absconding.
