Coimbatore: Nearly 50kg of silver items were stolen from a locked house in the city, with the crime coming to light on Friday.Variety Hall Road police said the theft took place at the residence of Sheshathri, 73, on Oppanakkara Street in the city. Police said the crime took place when Sheshathri and his wife were visiting their son in Bengaluru. They were away for a month and returned to the city late on Thursday night.When they reached their house, the couple found that the lock on the front door broken open, and silver items including plates, glass, a water pot and an oil lamp were missing from the house. He alerted the police who inspected the crime scene.Police have registered a case and are investigating to trace the culprits.
