Vadodara: A married woman who wanted to end an extramarital relationship allegedly faced harassment and threats from her former lover, who insisted that she continue the relationship until he found another girlfriend. He also threatened to reveal the affair to her husband if she stopped communicating with him.The woman, a hospital employee and mother of a five-year-old child, approached the 181 Abhayam helpline after the man began harassing her. According to Abhayam officials, she had met the man through a female friend a few months ago. Their initial conversations soon developed into a relationship that lasted around three months.However, the man became increasingly possessive, insisting that she remain in constant contact with him and frequently turning up at her workplace. The woman told counsellors that he had even forced himself on her twice. Troubled by his behaviour, she decided to end the relationship, but he refused to accept her decision and continued pressuring her to stay in touch.“He told her that he wanted to remain in a relationship with her until he found another girlfriend. He also threatened to tell her husband about their affair if she stopped talking to him,” Abhayam officials said.Fearing the consequences of the threats, the woman sought help from the helpline. Counsellors contacted the man, asking him to delete their chats and warning him against further harassment. However, he refused to comply and instead demanded money from the woman, officials said.With the man continuing to pressure her, the counsellors accompanied the woman to a police station to help her lodge a complaint against him.
