Ahmedabad: A Navrangpura woman has alleged that a dispute over a Rs 77 parcel delivery charge triggered a prolonged cyber harassment campaign against her. Days after she complained about a delivery rider’s conduct, she began receiving a flood of OTPs, payment requests and login alerts on her phone and email. Obscene material with her name and from accounts created in her name was also sent to her, she has alleged. The woman approached Navrangpura police on Friday, alleging that the trouble began three days after she used the delivery service to send a parcel to a friend in Ghatlodia. She told police that the delivery rider called her after the parcel was delivered, sought an OTP and claimed that the Rs 77 payment made for the service had not reached him.Despite the woman sending the rider a screenshot of the payment made, he allegedly insisted on collecting the money personally and went to her residence when she was away. She complained about his conduct on the service’s app.Three days later, she allegedly began receiving multiple OTPs from different companies on her phone and email, along with Google Pay payment requests and WhatsApp login OTPs. Her family members also started receiving similar messages, she alleged. The woman said her personal details were misused on a website linked to her workplace and her brother-in-law’s company, where forms submitted in her name contained obscene remarks. She approached cybercrime police. The harassment allegedly escalated in July when fake email accounts using variations of her name began sending her obscene messages. On July 17, a colleague alerted her that an Instagram account using her name had sent a request. She discovered several fake profiles carrying her photographs and allegedly posting obscene content. When she contacted one of the accounts through a friend’s profile, the person allegedly demanded Rs 77,000 and an iPhone, threatening to circulate her objectionable photographs if she failed to comply.Navrangpura police registered a complaint against unidentified persons and are examining the phone numbers, email IDs, Instagram accounts and other digital trails.
