Guwahati: A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend inside a hotel room near Rangia railway station on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Malani Guriya (23) of Hugrajuli village in Sonitpur district. The accused, Abhijit Kindu, is from Rowta in Udalguri district.Kamrup district SSP Subhasish Barua said Kindu called the police after the incident. “A case has been registered against him at Rangia PS under relevant sections of BNS Act,” the SSP said.Malani and her two friends arrived in Assam from Chennai on Saturday night. Kindu received them at the station, after which they stayed at the same hotel in adjacent rooms.Police said Kindu later called Malani to his room, where they spent some time before she was allegedly killed.“We suspect that he killed her because there was turmoil in their relationship. After killing her, he also allegedly tried to end his own life but could not,” a Rangia police officer said.A forensic team collected evidence from the hotel. Malani’s body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.Her friends said they called her while preparing to check out, but she told them to leave, adding that she would follow later. They said Malani and Kindu worked together in Chennai.
