Patna: A 35-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Muth Gautam Barhai Hata village under Thawe police station area in Gopalganj district, with her maternal family alleging that she was strangled over a dowry demand. Police detained two persons in connection with the case on Wednesday.The deceased, Khushbu Devi, was married to Mukesh Singh, a resident of Muth Gautam Barhai Hata village, in 2022, her father Shubhnath Singh, a resident of Siswa village under Nautan police station in Siwan district, said.Singh alleged that Khushbu had been subjected to physical and mental harassment by her in-laws since the marriage over a demand for Rs2 lakh in cash as dowry.He further alleged that after the demand was not fulfilled, Khushbu’s in-laws strangled her with a rope. Her body was recovered from the house on Tuesday.Police reached the spot after being informed by local residents and the woman’s family. The body was sent to a govt hospital for the postmortem, and further legal proceedings were initiated.Thawe SHO Subash Prasad said two persons had been detained and were being questioned. “The matter is being investigated thoroughly. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of the investigation and the postmortem report,” he said.An FIR has been registered against six members of Khushbu’s in-laws’ family. The two persons detained are her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.According to the SHO, Khushbu’s husband lives in Gujarat and works as a construction worker. He was in Gujarat when she died. Police are conducting raids to arrest the other named accused, he added.
