T’puram: A 76-year-old woman died after she allegedly lost her balance and fell into a canal near her house while on her way to attend Sunday Mass at a nearby church at Peringammala in Kalliyoor around 6.30am on Sunday.The deceased was Amalothbhavam of Peringammala. According to the Nemom police, she was living alone and had difficulty walking due to physical ailments.Police said she apparently lost her balance while walking and fell into the canal close to her residence. The exact circumstances leading to her fall are being verified.Locals who noticed her lying in the canal alerted the police. A team from the Nemom police station recovered the body. The police conducted the necessary inquest proceedings and registered a case under the provisions relating to unnatural death.The body was subsequently shifted for postmortem. After the examination, it was handed over to her relatives.Funeral services were later held at a church in her native place in the presence of relatives and locals.Amalothbhavam was the widow of late Damsy. She is survived by her children Selin Mary, Raju and Sheela. Her sons-in-law are Joe Fernandes, Shobha and the late Jayaraj Castro.Police said there was no immediate indication of any foul play.
