A woman who stabbed two 10-year-old boys has been detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital.
Armed police found the injured boys after forcing their way into a flat in Friskney in November 2022 following a stand-off lasting several hours.
Ann Marie McEvoy, 45, of Church Walk, Colchester, was tasered and arrested. In July, she pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder.
On Friday, she was sentenced to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act at Lincoln Crown Court.
The boys were treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
McEvoy was seen holding a large knife prior to her arrest, the court heard.
Dr Tim Rogers, a consultant forensic psychiatrist, told the latest hearing the offences would not have happened had McEvoy been mentally well.
McEvoy suffered from schizoaffective disorder, the expert said, adding it was clear she needed treatment, potentially for the remainder of her life.
Judge Simon Hirst said he was satisfied the best way to protect the public was to impose a hospital order.
Doctors and the Secretary of State will decide if and when she can be released.
Addressing McEvoy, Hirst said: “Your need for treatment is likely to be significantly longer than a prison sentence.
“It is necessary to protect the public and it is not possible to say for how long that will be.”
McEvoy was previously deemed unfit to stand trial and was made the subject of a hospital order in September 2024 after a jury found she was responsible for stabbing the boys.
The Crown Prosecution Service chose to resume criminal proceedings against McEvoy in March this year after her condition improved in hospital. She was deemed fit enough to enter her pleas.
Mark Knowles, defending, said McEvoy had entered guilty pleas because she not want to subject the boys to the ordeal of a trial.
Impact statements from both boys were read out in court.
One of them described how he suffered a punctured lung and was rushed to hospital for surgery on his neck.
The other boy said he had only just started feeling better.
Hirst also made a restraining order which prevents McEvoy contacting the children.
