Bengaluru: A 29-year-old homemaker stepped out of her bathroom to a nightmare when an intruder grabbed her from behind and choked her with a dupatta after entering her Peenya 2nd Stage home through a first-floor window.She lost consciousness during the attack and, on recovering, found her 50-gram gold mangalya chain, worth around Rs 5 lakh, was missing.The miscreant also broke open a wardrobe and took away Rs 30,000 in cash. According to a complaint filed by Kavya (name changed), the incident occurred around 12.30pm on Sept 17, when she was home alone as her husband, a private firm employee, had gone to attend a housewarming ceremony of their relative and their five-year-old daughter was at school.After finishing the house chores, Kavya wanted to take a bath. She said she went to the ground floor of the house and locked all the doors and windows. Then she went to the first floor of the house and locked the door from inside before going to the bathroom to bathe. She had left a window next to the door slightly open.Soon after finishing her bath, she stepped out of the bathroom. The woman said she was grabbed from behind by an unidentified man. He asked her not to make noise or retort and said he would leave after taking whatever he wanted from the house.Kavya said the attacker squeezed her neck with his hands. When she was finding it difficult to breathe, the miscreant took a dupatta and wrapped it around her neck, tightening and twisting it while again warning her not to scream.Kavya told police that she lost consciousness. When she recovered, she realised that her gold mangalya chain was missing. She also found the almirah locker broken open and Rs 30,000 was missing.Her husband and his father soon arrived and rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors admitted her as an inpatient.Based on the medico-legal case (MLC) report, Byadarahalli police rushed to the hospital and took a complaint from the woman.A senior officer said the miscreant was detained Sunday evening and was being subjected to questioning.
