Ranchi: A 43-year-old woman was arrested with 90 grams of brown sugar in city, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Munni Devi, had allegedly brought the consignment from Bihar for sale in the city.SP City Paras Rana said police was tipped off that Munni was travelling in a bus and would deboard near Jumar Bridge on Sunday. “Acting on it, a police team reached the area on Sunday to verify the input and at around 3.10 pm, the team spotted a woman sitting alone in an autorickshaw near the bridge. On seeing the police, she allegedly tried to flee, but the team apprehended her,” Rana said.Police recovered 90 grams of brown sugar and Rs 20,000 cash from Munni’s possession.During interrogation, Munni told police that she was involved in the sale of brown sugar at various places in Ranchi. “She had been associated with the transportation and sale of contraband for a long time and was sent to jail in Dec last year. This was her first visit to Bihar for procuring contraband after the previous arrest,” Rana said.
