A 20-year-old woman, Rajbir Kaur, died by suicide inside Bhikhiwind police station on Sunday.

TARN TARAN: A 20-year-old woman arrested in connection with her neighbour’s murder allegedly died by suicide inside Bhikhiwind police station on Sunday, a day after her arrest and shortly before she was to be produced before a court.Senior Superintendent of Police Surendra Lamba informed on Monday that the deceased, Rajbir Kaur, a resident of Kalsian Kalan village, was booked under Sections 103, 115(2), 333, 190, 351, 118 and 191 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Bhikhiwind police station. She was arrested on August 8.According to the SSP, Rajbir was found hanging inside the police station bathroom at around 9 am when she went there to use it. She was subsequently taken to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police sources said Rajbir allegedly used her dupatta to hang herself inside the bathroom. A woman constable had accompanied her to the bathroom after she told the police that she needed to use it. She was scheduled to be produced before a court later that day.Rajbir was allegedly arrested in connection with the murder of her neighbour in Kalsian Kalan village. A case had been registered against Roop Singh, his three sons and Rajbir Kaur in connection with the murder.The circumstances surrounding her death have prompted a judicial inquiry. Police sources said the circumstances leading to the incident would be examined as part of the inquiry.Rajbir was married in Pahuwind village, and had a daughter aged around one-and-a-half years.Meanwhile, Rajbir’s relatives have questioned the circumstances of her death and alleged that she was falsely implicated in the murder case. They demanded an impartial investigation into both the murder case and her death in police custody.The family has also sought a thorough probe into the circumstances under which Rajbir allegedly managed to hang herself inside the police station bathroom while in police custody. eom
