Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) will hold a prayer ceremony at Akal Takht on Tuesday, marking the one-year anniversary of the party’s formation.“The prayer will be dedicated to the release of the Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners in jail after completion of their sentences). Sikh youths who have been imprisoned for a long period are still not being released, even after growing old in prisons,” SAD (Punar Surjit) president Giani Harpreet Singh said in a written statement on Sunday.“The most unfortunate situation is that Balwant Singh Rajoana has been in prison for the past 31 years and has spent 19 years on death row, yet the central govt has still not taken a decision regarding his case. Jagtar Singh Hawara’s mother is elderly, but Hawara has not even been granted parole to meet her,” Giani Harpreet said.At the same time, he alleged rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been released from prison on parole multiple times a year.
