T’puram: A 28-year-old woman from Vizhinjam has lodged a complaint alleging that she was abducted from outside Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and robbed of gold ornaments worth more than Rs 8 lakh before being abandoned at Cherthala.The woman, identified as Safeela, told Valiyathura Police that the incident occurred on Sept 17, shortly after she arrived from Sharjah on an IndiGo flight (6E 1426).According to the complaint, her husband, who was in Sharjah, had handed over the gold ornaments to her before she boarded the flight and instructed her to give them to his friend, a Thiruvananthapuram native identified as Meharub, who would be waiting outside the airport.However, after she came out of the airport, three persons allegedly approached her, introduced themselves as people sent by Meharub and offered to take her to him. She alleged that the trio forced her into a car and threatened to kill her before taking away the gold.The suspects allegedly drove her towards the Alappuzha side and abandoned her at Cherthala before fleeing, the complaint stated.The woman approached police on Friday, eight days after the alleged incident. The police recorded her statement, registered an FIR and launched a probe.The police are examining the circumstances in which the suspects allegedly knew about the gold and were able to approach the woman after her arrival. The police are also attempting to identify the three suspects and trace the vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
