Lucknow: A 20-year-old woman from Lucknow’s Chinhat has accused eight neighbours of repeatedly harassing, assaulting and threatening her and her family over the past year. Police registered an FIR on Aug 7 following a court order.The complainant, Afreen, a resident of New Kanshiram Colony, alleged that the harassment began in March 2025. In her complaint, she named Imran, Rizwan, Momin Khan, Arman, Bablu, Reshma, Rukhsana and Mehrun Nisha, all residents of the same locality.According to the FIR, Afreen alleged that several of the accused routinely passed inappropriate remarks and harassed her. She claimed that on Aug 12, 2025, some of the accused abused her and allegedly pulled her dupatta, following which she approached a local police outpost.She further alleged that on another occasion, Arman and two associates stopped her on the road, made objectionable comments and threw water at her, allegedly warning that next time the bottle would contain acid.Afreen also alleged that on Oct 7, 2025, Imran and his associates arrived in a car and attempted to force her inside. She claimed they fled after she raised an alarm.She added that despite repeated complaints to police, the harassment continued. She alleged that on Feb 27, she again faced harassment and later lodged complaints with police and the State Women’s Commission.A day later, she alleged, some of the accused assaulted her and her family members during a confrontation. She claimed that her mother and sister were also attacked when they intervened. Neighbours reportedly stepped in and separated the parties.Afreen told the court that she and her family had been living under constant fear due to repeated threats. She also stated that written complaints were sent to Chinhat police and the Lucknow police commissioner on March 9 but no FIR was registered.Police finally lodged an FIR under the BNS sections relating to assault, harassment, hurt, intimidation, insult and rioting.
