Kanpur: A woman in Kanpur has filed a case at Mahila police station, accusing her in-laws of stripping her as part of ‘rituals’ for sorcery practices. She also alleged that she was physically assaulted when she resisted the act. According to the complaint, soon after marriage, the woman’s mother-in-law told her that the family follows sorcery and conducts midnight rituals, which she would be required to participate in. Her mother-in-law claimed that during one such ritual, all family members, including men, are asked to remove their clothes. When she opposed this, her husband forcibly made her participate and removed her clothes. The woman further claimed that she was later sent to a room, where her father-in-law was present, and the door was locked. The complainant stated that she was physically assaulted, whenever she resisted the practices. She later informed her mother about the ordeal, following which her brother brought her back to her parental home.She also alleged that after her father approached the police, attempts were made by her in-laws to suppress the matter and reach a compromise over several months. Based on her written complaint, police registered an FIR against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband and brother-in-law.ACP Ashutosh Singh said that the case is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
