Ulhasnagar: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly electrocuted last Friday after coming in contact with the pole of a public CCTV camera in Ulhasnagar. An FIR was lodged for causing death by negligence against the company, Matrix Smart Technology Pvt Ltd, that was given the contract for installation and maintenance of govt CCTV cameras in the area.According to a complaint filed by the brother of the victim, Karishma Madhwani, the pole had electric current flowing through it and was not maintained properly. The camera’s functioning was supervised by police.The FIR filed by Central police said the electrical system and equipment provided for the CCTV pole were allegedly not maintained or repaired in time. The complaint alleged that despite the potential danger, adequate safety measures, warning signs or boards were not installed near the pole. It said the maintenance lapse resulted in electrical current flowing through the metal CCTV pole and when Karishma came in contact with it, she suffered a severe electric shock and died.Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the alleged electrical leakage, the maintenance of the CCTV installation and whether prescribed safety measures were followed.
