Patna: A farmer from Supaul district has gone viral on social media platforms after he was caught on camera carrying a five-foot crocodile on his shoulder to a police station for its safe release into the river after finding no staff at the forest department office. The reptile was later safely released into the Kosi river.The rare rescue scene involving the mighty reptile, believed to be around five feet long, was captured on Saturday when local farmer Amit Kumar carried it on his shoulder, with its mouth firmly tied to prevent it from harming anyone. As he walked on foot, a crowd of onlookers followed him.Villagers said farmers were working in the fields when they suddenly spotted the crocodile lurking in a paddy field and panicked. One of them, Amit Kumar, a resident of Lalpur village, however, mustered courage and, with the help of co-villagers, restrained the crocodile by tying its mouth with a long rope without harming it.With no local assistance available, Amit then reached the nearest forest department office at Kataiya, walking on foot with the restrained crocodile hanging from his shoulder. However, after finding no officials there, he rushed to the nearby Bhim Nagar police station seeking help for its safe release into a water body.“I feared carrying the deadly reptile on my shoulder, but there was no option. Someone had to do it. We did not harm the animal,” Amit told local reporters.Videos of the unusual sight showed curious onlookers stopping along the road to watch the farmer walk past with the crocodile balanced on his shoulder. Many recorded the incident on their mobile phones, helping the clips spread widely on social media. The incident has since become the talk of the town.Witnesses said policemen at the station were surprised when the farmer placed the crocodile on the floor. The police immediately contacted the forest department team, which reached the spot with a vehicle and released the crocodile into the Kosi river.“It was a rare sight at the police station. The farmer came and placed the crocodile on the floor. We immediately called the forest department team and ensured its release into the Kosi river,” Bhim Nagar police SHO Manish Kumar told TOI over the phone on Sunday.
