Patna: A three-day orientation-cum-induction programme for the newly admitted undergraduate students of the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-Patna) began here on Sunday with the participation of about 800 students.Speaking as the chief guest, Bihar health secretary Kumar Ravi, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, said that the IIT system provides students with a strong platform for their multidimensional development. He said that sincere and dedicated students have no shortage of job opportunities in today’s world. However, given the rapidly changing nature of the professional landscape, students must constantly prepare themselves to meet emerging challenges.The orientation and induction programme 2026 commenced in the institute’s main auditorium with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. IIT-Patna director T N Singh welcomed the chief guest by presenting him with a shawl and a memento.Welcoming the newly admitted students, Singh said that the institute is committed not only to providing a world-class academic environment but also to ensuring the holistic development of its students. Emphasising the importance of mutual support and gratitude, he said, “You cannot succeed alone. Success depends on the support of your friends, teachers, family members and society as a whole. You must respect them all.“Associate dean (Academics) Sushant Kumar informed the students that nearly 800 candidates who qualified JEE (Advanced) 2026 had been admitted to the institute’s 32 undergraduate programmes. Senior faculty members Subrata Hait, Prof Jimson Mathew, and Kuldeep Patel, along with registrar AK Thakur, familiarised the newcomers with the institute’s academic framework, administrative procedures, and student support systems.
