Ludhiana: A local man has been booked for domestic harassment after his wife sustained critical injuries while attempting to escape their third-floor home, where she had allegedly been locked inside following an assault. The victim, identified as Meenakshi Narula, is currently receiving treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital after falling from the roof of her residence in the Lohara area. The Daba police registered the case against Meenakshi ‘s husband, Khem Chand, following a complaint by the victim’s sister-in-law, Khushi Arora. According to the police report, the couple’s marriage has been marred by frequent disputes and allegations of physical and mental harassment.Investigating officer ASI Kashmir Singh noted that the couple had a history of domestic turbulence and had previously undergone a community-mediated separation five years ago before attempting to reconcile. The complaint suggests that on March 4, Khem Chand allegedly assaulted Meenakshi and locked her inside a third-floor room before leaving the premises. “Frightened and distressed after being confined, the woman attempted to escape the room,” ASI Singh said.Police reports indicate that Meenakshi climbed out of a window and attempted to descend the building by gripping two external pipes. A neighbor reportedly spotted her and shouted for her to stop, but the woman continued her descent. During the escape attempt, she lost her grip on the pipes. She first struck a water tank on a lower level before falling to the ground at the rear of the house. The impact resulted in multiple serious injuries.Cops have confirmed that a manhunt is on for Khem Chand, who faces charges related to assault and illegal confinement.
