Hyderabad: A 28-year-old woman died by suicide at her home in Khammam district on Wednesday after learning that her husband had allegedly disappeared after telling relatives he intended to die, leaving their two children without either parent.Police said that Tejavath Hariprasad, an autorickshaw driver from Ammapalem village of Konijerla mandal, reportedly left his home on Wednesday morning and called his elder brother, Ramamurthy, saying that he was going to die and asking him to take care of his two children. He conveyed a similar message to the village sarpanch, who alerted the police.Police traced Hariprasad’s mobile phone location to the NSP main canal near V Venkatayapalem. When they reached the spot, they found his autorickshaw, footwear and cellphone near the canal, raising suspicion that he may have jumped into the water. An NDRF team conducted a search until late Wednesday night, but Hariprasad could not be traced.Meanwhile, after learning that her husband had reportedly jumped into the canal, his wife, Sunitha, died by suicide at their house. The incident came to light when employees of a private bank visited the couple’s home in connection with an inquiry related to a loan application. After receiving no response despite repeated knocking, they looked through a window and saw Sunitha. They alerted residents, who entered the house and found her dead.Hariprasad and Sunitha had been married for around 15 years and had two children, a son, Manohar, and a daughter, Bhargavi. The couple had recently constructed a house under the Indiramma housing scheme and had reportedly incurred debts during the process. Police also said the couple had been having differences for about a week. However, Sunitha’s relatives have expressed differing views about the circumstances surrounding her death. “We have registered a case based on the complaint received. The details will be known after the investigation,” SI Suraj said.
