Lucknow: The death of a deputy manager in a private bank, Qazi Ahmad Zaid, has taken a curious turn after his wife lodged an FIR on Friday alleging financial fraud and murder against the victim’s acquaintances.Zaid, 40, was found dead in his house under mysterious circumstances in Gudamba area on Monday, with a gunshot wound to the head from an alleged illegal pistol.Zaid’s wife, Taiyyaba Khan, claimed that the wife of one of Zaid’s friends allegedly lured Zaid into financial dealings and later threatened to implicate him in false cases. She said that in Oct 2025, Zaid arranged a loan of around Rs 28-30 lakh for his friend’s wife for the purchase of a second-hand Mercedes car.According to police, though the loan was taken in the woman’s name, the repayment was being done by Zaid. They said that investigation was on to ascertain why he had been paying the EMIs.Zaid’s wife alleged that the woman later demanded Rs 50 lakh and threatened to implicate him in false cases.“She later lodged a complaint with the Gudumba police and at Zaid’s bank claiming that he had taken a loan in her name without her knowledge. The police brokered a compromise under which the woman was asked to give the car to Zaid and he would continue to pay EMIs,” she said.“Instead of returning the vehicle, the woman allegedly sold it for Rs 24.5 lakh and gave only Rs 9.5 lakh to Zaid,” Taiyyaba claimed. The FIR also claimed that Zaid might have been murdered by the accused as he was found dead on the terrace of his house with a firearm nearby. His wife claimed that Zaid did not have any licensed or unlicensed weapon.ACP, Ghazipur (Indira Nagar), Anindya Vikram Singh said that an FIR under the charges of murder, insult and criminal intimidation had been registered against the accused.
