Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami questioned chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s “silence” over the seizure of 137kg of methamphetamine from a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam.“What was the purpose of participating in anti-drug marathons when a TVK functionary is involved in such a massive international drug racket?” EPS asked chief minister C Joseph Vijay, describing him as “reels CM.”Quoting Union finance ministry’s statement on the seizure of methamphetamine from TVK functionary N Boopalan, EPS said this was one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Tamil Nadu in recent years.Drawing a parallel between Boopalan and Walter White, the chemistry teacher-turned-drug manufacturer and smuggler in the popular web series Breaking Bad, Palaniswami ridiculed Vijay for remaining silent, both as cm and as the party president. He alleged that TVK Nagapattinam urban secretary Paulraj was threatening media personnel for reporting the drug seizure. “This raises the question whether the ruling party leadership was aware of drug trafficking and whether it was taking place with their support. Instead of taking responsibility for the involvement of your party functionary, are you trying to cover up the issue by threatening the media?” he asked.EPS said Vijay should be ashamed as the state police was unaware of the drug racket and it was Union govt’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence which made the seizure. “Will he explain whether this is the change he promised?” Palaniswami asked.
