BJP’s tribal push

The Ranibandh constituency is a Scheduled Tribe-reserved seat in the tribal-dominated Bankura belt that has long been politically significant in Bengal Assembly elections.

Tudu’s induction into the cabinet is being viewed as the BJP’s attempt to consolidate its tribal outreach in the state after securing a victory across large parts of western Bengal.

His appointment to the Suvendu Adhikari’s cabinet also underlines the political importance of tribal representation in the new Bengal government, especially after the BJP’s aggressive campaign in Jangalmahal focused on welfare delivery, tribal identity and allegations of neglect under the previous government.
